Designing Tools That Support the UK’s Emergency Services

AVR Group provides advanced digital infrastructure and software solutions that support emergency services across the UK. With a focus on innovation, reliability and community safety, they deliver everything from secure Tier 4 data centres to mission-critical software that helps frontline responders act quickly and effectively.

I work with AVR Group on a contract basis as their UI/UX Designer, helping to shape the interfaces and user journeys behind their core products. These tools are used in high-stakes environments, so clarity, speed and accessibility are key priorities in every decision I make. My role involves designing thoughtful user flows, creating clean interface designs and supporting the development teams with assets and prototypes that bring everything to life in a practical, scalable way.

Alongside product work, I recently led the redesign of their marketing website to give it a more modern and technical feel. The challenge was to freshen up the brand visually while staying aligned with the expectations of a specialised and security-conscious audience. The result is a more polished, confident platform that better reflects the scale and sophistication of AVR's work.

Clarity in Critical Environments

The tools used by emergency services need to be fast, clear and easy to navigate, there’s no room for confusion. My focus was on creating clean, simple interfaces that surface the right information at the right time, helping users make decisions quickly and confidently.

Reducing Cognitive Load

Every screen was designed to reduce noise and avoid unnecessary complexity. By stripping things back to the essentials, I helped ensure that users can complete tasks with minimal effort, even under pressure. This was especially important given the varied tech experience of the people using the system.

Built for Speed and Focus

Simple design doesn’t just look better, it works better. I kept layouts consistent, used plain language and designed with a clear visual hierarchy to keep users focused on what matters. The result is a smoother, faster experience that supports the critical work AVR Group’s products are built for.
